Limestone valley bottoms are cleared with junipers invading areas. Matrix forest on rocky, acidic sandtone include old chestnut and red oak. Shrub layers are browsed out (even ericads).;Limestone cliffband on southwest slope of a foothill foreknob. Cliff ledges and top support stunted Juniperus virginiana, some appearing very old. Site was sampled by dendrochronology study. There are calciphyllic herbs on ledges including Carex eburnea. Rock faces are colonized by lichens and some moss. There are traces of cutting, possibly by the dendro study.
Representativeness
Small patch, but large for type. Limestone cliff w/ old growth eastern red cedar. Sampled at the end of cliff band to facilitate access to both top and bottom.
